About: Sunday night at the Virgin Active Gym and Liesbet is on a treadmill desperately trying to run from her past. Nicola Hanekom’s provocative one woman play delves deep into the psyche of a young woman with a troubled past and a disturbing relationship with food.

Presented in Afrikaans as Hol and in English as Running on Empty.

What the Press Said:

“Breathless performance by Hanekom almost heroic in scope…There is a lyrical beauty to Hanekom’s usage of the Afrikaans language that makes most of Hol very pleasing to the ear.” THE NEXT 48 HOURS

“layered, focused and ultimately poignant, Hol is a stream-of-consciousness monologue that gives us a glimpse into one particular bulimic’s relationship with food…the wordplay is exquisite…the success of the play hinges on Hanekom’s delivery, which is pitch perfect” CAPE ARGUS
